The Economist’s 3rd annual Climate Risk Europe Virtual Week takes place online, September 14th-16th 2021. The game took us maybe 2 hours, and I felt that maybe the number of crowns to win should be increased to at least 10 if everyone wants a fair shot at winning. What impact will climate-related risks have on businesses and how can management respond? To win you must control 7 "crowns" which are spread across Europe in the form of Towns and Cities. It almost feels like a completely different game. Sorry I am not much of a story teller, and I am quite tired but these accounts have made it clear to myself and my fellow tabletop friends that Risk Europe is the real deal, and is a very interesting twist on the original. These two had most of the game to do so, and it ended fantastically. Battles were well balanced depending on the amount of ground you were able to cover, and how many turns you had to amass your forces. We had extra dice, as each of the military pieces are in their own respective tiers and thus, receieving their own respective dice. We help European insurance brokers and agents in placing complex liability and other specialty insurance and reinsurance risks. Watching those two move hundreds of pieces until finally meeting was exciting, and the ensuing battles were pretty impressive. The other two opponents were content walking across Europe, both getting 6 "crowns" and leading their armies to the last city left to claim in the south, Rome. Purple, my northern opponent, stole Berlin from me and I was left to hop across the water to Britain to try and form a counter-attack. Since it was our first time playing, we held off for a few turns before all hell broke loose. The game is very fast paced, as combat is forced upon you quickly if you want to win. Selling out year-on-year, the acclaimed Vendor & Third Party Risk Europe is the go-to. I was left feinting my opponent to the north as he attempted to cross the sea and take Berlin from my grasp. Vendor & Third Party Risk Europe will return in 2024 for its 10th Edition Summit. Unfortunately it did become claustrophobic for myself and my opponent in Stockholm, to the great delight of the other two players who spread across Europe like a sudden storm. The map seems large at first, but once troops are arrayed, and a turn or two in, the tenseness of aggression filled the air. We have played Starcraft, Star Wars, Original, Godstorm, etc. I played with 3 other people who are fluent in Risk and all its varied formats. ![]() I chose Berlin of course, since it's bonus allowed for quick military acquisition as well as troop movement. It was pretty fun, the ability to choose your starting capital/town/castle with its bonus is quite interesting and very important. ![]() I know this isn't the most active sub, but in case anyone is interested I did play the game about two weeks ago.
